Surge in for­est loss

At the present rate of de­for­esta­tion, the world will lose forests equiv­a­lent to the size of In­dia by 2050. Threats loom large from log­ging com­pa­nies that de­stroy vast stretches of forests for tim­ber ex­trac­tion. How­ever, changes in car­bon pric­ing pol­icy can cut down the alarm­ing de­for­esta­tion rate and al­le­vi­ate cli­mate change, says a study pub­lished by the Cen­ter for Global De­vel­op­ment
