`Put 85 per cent warnings on cigarettes'

Down to Earth - - ON THE WEB -

Cardiologists in India have called for 85 per cent of the principal display area of tobacco packages to be covered in pictorial health warnings. At present, pictorial warnings cover 40 per cent of the display area. The cardiologists say it is a critical measure to meet the targets set under Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted on September 26 this year. Cardiologists feel that pictorial warnings could serve dual purposes. They could prevent new consumers and help smokers quit smoking
