Oral is safe

THERE IS no in­creased risk of any ma­jor birth de­fect as­so­ci­ated with oral con­tra­cep­tive ex­po­sure ei­ther be­fore or dur­ing preg­nancy. Re­searchers an­a­lysed 880,694 live­born in­fants, 2.5 per cent of whom had a ma­jor birth de­fect. The preva­lence of ma­jor birth de­fects, per 1000 births, was con­sis­tent across all groups.
