Devil in the details

Down to Earth - - LETTERS -

At first glance, 'The crisis Modi is not tackling' (1-15 November, 2015) does ring alarm bells. But reading in between the lines reveals the real picture. I agree that there is a shortfall of jobs in India. But the instance of people eith PhDs and BTechs applying for a peon's post, as cited in the story, shows that there is something wrong with our higher education system. A post-graduate or an engineer is supposed to

have acquired a calibre with the help of which she or he can create self-employment. The only explanation about those applying for the peon's job is that either their degrees are fake or they intend to pursue a parallel vocation along with the assured salary of a peon in a government department, knowing that a peon neither has responsibility nor accountability.
