Use of waste­water in power plants not only saves wa­ter but also re­duces pol­lu­tion of wa­ter­bod­ies. Two ex­am­ples The Ari­zona-based power plant buys 26 gal­lons of treated waste­water a year as a coolant. This saves 55 mil­lion gal­lons of fresh­wa­ter per day, ac­cord­ing to a 2014 re­port by Na­tional Re­source De­fense Coun­cil ( Lo­cated in the vicin­ity of the sewage treat­ment plant, the power com­pany makes sure no waste­water is dis­charged into the sea. This is be­cause the waste­water gen­er­ated by the plant is fed back to the sewage treat­ment plant.
