Chambal ravines halted
DownToEarth travels to Madhya Pradesh's Morena district, where ravines are spreading fast and gobbling up agricultural land. In the absence of any effective government programme to check their spread, people are innovating ways to reclaim their land. They are building bunds and check dams to regulate rainwater flow and thus slow down erosion. The state must involve local people and incorporate their techniques in its plan to reclaim the Chambal ravines.
