TAKING SHELTER FROM DENGUE
Yasir, a coconut-seller in Delhi's trans-Yamuna neighbourhood of Mayur Vihar, runs his business from inside a mosquito net as dengue fever grips the national capital. According to the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, 15,099 people across the country have already been infected with dengue since the monsoon season began this year. Till the magazine went to print, the disease had claimed one life in Delhi and seven in West Bengal. At least 220 people had succumbed to the vector-borne fever last year.
