Fast returns

Down to Earth - - EDITOR’S PAGE -

DownToEarth travels to Haryana's Jind district to meet Rajesh Kumar, who runs a rabbit farm. He says farmers are slowly taking up rabbit farming to supplement their income from agriculture since it requires less investment. Rabbits breed fast and kits can be sold within months of being born. Rabbits are practically diseasefree and their feed is affordable to farmers. Currently, rabbits are supplied mainly to laboratories, but a market for their meat is developing slowly.
