DownToEarth analyses the World Risk Report 2016 published by the United Nations University. According to it, of the top 15 countries at most risk from natural disasters, eight are located in developing island nations. Japan is the only developed country with a disaster risk of more than 10 per cent. However, its preparedness means its overall risk is 17th globally. Qatar has the lowest disaster risk worldwide. It has not experienced any disaster since 1990.
