Come Oc­to­ber 2, polythene items will be banned inside her­itage mon­u­ments

Min­istry of Tourism has de­cided to ban polythene bags from mon­u­ments pro­tected by the Ar­chae­o­log­i­cal Sur­vey of In­dia from Oc­to­ber 2. Ven­dors sell­ing eat­a­bles will also not be al­lowed to en­ter within a 100-me­tre ra­dius of these mon­u­ments, such as the Taj Ma­hal, Red Fort, Qutb not be al­lowed to carry even food pack­aged in plas­tic wrap­pers inside the mon­u­ments. They will, how­ever, be per­mit­ted to carry wa­ter bot­tles Cul­ture, Ma­hesh Sharma, told me­dia. Vi­o­la­tors will not be pe­nalised for the first two months but a de­ci­sion could be taken later to in­tro­duce a fine.
