On September 8, the Supreme Court allowed Gujarat to remove 10,935 hectares of land from the reserve forest area category to enable activities which are now prohibited in reserved areas. On September 2, the National Green Tribunal ( NGT) refused to quash the environmental clearance granted to Vizhinjam Seaport being developed by the Adani Group in Thiruvananthapuram. On August 30, the Madras High Court observed that the floods in December last year could have been averted if the State Disaster Management plan had been in place. Instead, it remained on paper as a draft for six years. On September 11, the Delhi High Court asked the government and the municipal corporations of Delhi to take steps to control dengue. On September 9, NGT directed the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board ( MSPCB) to analyse water from four rivers in the state.
MSPCB has been asked to file the results within six weeks. On August 31, the Supreme Court quashed the CPI (M)-led West Bengal government's acquisition of 403 hectares of agricultural land for industry major Tata Motors' Nano small car plant in Singur. On September 8, the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad sought an explanation from the Telangana Pollution Control Board, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner and the water board about the steps taken to prevent pollution in Kapra Lake.
