On Septem­ber 8, the Supreme Court al­lowed Gu­jarat to re­move 10,935 hectares of land from the re­serve for­est area cat­e­gory to en­able ac­tiv­i­ties which are now pro­hib­ited in re­served ar­eas. On Septem­ber 2, the Na­tional Green Tri­bunal ( NGT) re­fused to quash the en­vi­ron­men­tal clear­ance granted to Vizhin­jam Sea­port being de­vel­oped by the Adani Group in Thiru­vanan­tha­pu­ram. On Au­gust 30, the Madras High Court ob­served that the floods in De­cem­ber last year could have been averted if the State Dis­as­ter Man­age­ment plan had been in place. In­stead, it re­mained on pa­per as a draft for six years. On Septem­ber 11, the Delhi High Court asked the govern­ment and the mu­nic­i­pal cor­po­ra­tions of Delhi to take steps to con­trol dengue. On Septem­ber 9, NGT di­rected the Megha­laya State Pol­lu­tion Con­trol Board ( MSPCB) to an­a­lyse wa­ter from four rivers in the state.

MSPCB has been asked to file the re­sults within six weeks. On Au­gust 31, the Supreme Court quashed the CPI (M)-led West Ben­gal govern­ment's ac­qui­si­tion of 403 hectares of agri­cul­tural land for in­dus­try ma­jor Tata Mo­tors' Nano small car plant in Sin­gur. On Septem­ber 8, the High Court of Ju­di­ca­ture at Hy­der­abad sought an ex­pla­na­tion from the Te­lan­gana Pol­lu­tion Con­trol Board, Greater Hy­der­abad Mu­nic­i­pal Com­mis­sioner and the wa­ter board about the steps taken to pre­vent pol­lu­tion in Kapra Lake.
