No economic gender parity till 2186

Down to Earth - - THE FORTNIGHT -

women will continue to be unequal in economic terms for the next 170 years. This is because efforts to close gender gaps in pay and workforce participation slowed down dramatically in 2015. Swiss non-profit World Economic Forum's (WEF's) Global Gender Gap Report 2016 has calculated the economic gap to be 59 per cent, the same as in 2008. The gap increased because of women's lower salaries and fewer numbers in the workforce and senior positions. WEF ranked 144 nations in its report on gender equality based on performance in education, health, economic opportunity and political empowerment. India ranked 87th.
