3 FIRs filed in Delhi for `breed­ing mos­qui­toes'

In a first, the South Delhi Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion has lodged three FIRs in Greater Kailash area for neg­li­gence that was lead­ing to large-scale breed­ing of mos­qui­toes. These were big con­struc­tion sites flout­ing norms, a se­nior of­fi­cial said. "We will im­pose penal­ties up to `50,000 and FIRs will also be lodged with the Delhi Po­lice against re­peat of­fend­ers. By be­ing neg­li­gent, these peo­ple are putting the lives of others in dan­ger," said the of­fi­cial. An in­spec­tion found neg­li­gence in over 47,000 homes, of which half were in South Delhi. The cor­po­ra­tion has re­cov­ered `37 lakh in penal­ties. The cam­paign will in­ten­sify in mon­soon.
