To improve the health status of Indian poor people (such as BPL) the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) was launched on 1st October, 2007 by UPA Government under the Ministry of Labour, GOI and it became effective from April 1, 2008 across the country. Till January 12, 2010, 26 States/Union Territories had initiated the process of implementing the scheme. The scheme is successfully operating in India. A large (80 per cent) proportion of the beneficiaries are satisfied with this scheme as well as their service quality. Undoubtedly, RSBY is a milestone in insurance inclusion for ensuring good health in India.
