Toshiba introduces new product lines
oshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Pvt Ltd (TTDI) has announced the completion of a $30-million investment at its Hyderabad facility in Telangana. The company has stepped by production capacity for transformers by 50 per cent, apart from establishing a new line for production of “new technology” switchgear like gas insulated switchgear and solid insulated switchgears. The expansion will allow TTDI to meet growing demand in India and globally, a statement from TTDI said.
Commenting on the development, Dr. Katsutoshi Toda, Chairman & Managing Director of TTDI said, “Since the foundation of TTDI, we have always endeavored in introducing new technology products and solutions, and improving product quality through technology transfers from Japan. In line with our ‘Make in India’ commitment, we have
Taugmented capacity of existing lines and commenced new production lines with 3-billion Yen investment. TTDI will seek to expand its business through full-scale operations and provide cost-competitive products by localizing procurement, design and manufacturing within India.”
TTDI currently manufactures small, medium and extra high voltage transformers. The company will use the new line to start production of ultra high voltage transformers up to 1200kV, and will also improve manufacturing and operating efficiency of distribution transformers. The new line for gasinsulated switchgear will also accomplish the anticipated demand growth in this product, especially in urban areas, the release noted.
It may be recalled that in December 2013, Toshiba Corporation Japan acquired the business of power transformers, distribution transformers and switchgear of Hyderabad-based Vijai Electricals Ltd and housed it under a new entity Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Pvt Ltd, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation.
