Elecrama 2016 was in­au­gu­rated on Fe­bru­ary 13, 2016 at the hands of Union min­is­ter of state for power Piyush Goyal in the pres­ence of other dig­ni­taries. he 12th edi­tion of ELECRAMA, the world’s largest trans­mis­sion and dis­tri­bu­tion ex­hi­bi­tion was a power packed event, which was held at BIEC, Ben­galuru from Fe­bru­ary 13-17, 2016. The event wit­nessed the pres­ence of who’s who in the power in­dus­try both do­mes­tic and in­ter­na­tional. The five-day in­ter­na­tional flag­ship event of IEEMA was in­au­gu­rated by Piyush Goyal, Min­is­ter of State (IC) for Power Coal, New & Re­new­able En­ergy, Govern­ment of In­dia, in the pres­ence of the En­ergy Min­is­ter of Kar­nataka, D K Shivaku­mar, Power Sec­re­tary, P K Pu­jari, Coal Sec­re­tary, Anil Swarup, state power sec­re­taries, CMDs of power util­i­ties, se­nior of­fi­cials of min­istry of power, Babu Ba­bel, Pres­i­dent, IEEMA, Aa­ditya R Dhoot, Chair­man of ELECRAMA 2016 Or­gan­is­ing Com­mit­tee, se­nior bu­reau­crats and in­dus­try lead­ers.

The show pro­vided the stake­hold­ers in the power in­dus­try a world­view on tech­nol­ogy, best prac­tices, new sys­tems and fore­cast­ing the trends in the fu­ture of elec­tric­ity, both from the tech­nol­ogy and a so­cio-eco­nomic point of view. The event is the largest and most pres­ti­gious event in its space in the world. Spread over a gross area of 84,000 sqm, the ex­hi­bi­tion hosted vis­i­tors from over 120 coun­tries and over­all foot­falls of over 1,20,000. There were over 1,000 ex­hibitors show­cas­ing di­verse prod­ucts, tech­nolo­gies and so­lu­tions.

There were many co-lo­cated and con­cur­rent event where Union Min­is­ter for Rail­ways Suresh Prabhu and Union Min­is­ter for Heavy In­dus­tries & Pub­lic En­ter­prises, Anant Geete marked their pres­ence.

World Util­ity Sum­mit: The World Util­ity Sum­mit was a pi­o­neer­ing thought lead­er­ship fo­rum, at­tempt­ing to set the agenda for the fu­ture, ac­tively play­ing the role of a key en­abler for the ecosys­tem, to de­velop op­ti­mal so­lu­tions, tech­nol­ogy and prod­ucts. The sum­mit was the first step in the long jour­ney in or­der to cre­ate in­te­grated and sus­tain­able

Tu­til­i­ties of the fu­ture. The three-day World Util­ity Sum­mit hosted se­nior lead­ers of util­i­ties, en­ergy ef­fi­ciency bod­ies, stan­dards or­ga­ni­za­tions, reg­u­la­tors, fi­nance pro­fes­sion­als and pol­icy mak­ers from around the world.

Re­verse Buyer Seller Meet: Re­verse Buyer Seller Meet (RBSM), the big­gest meet­ing place of In­ter­na­tional Buy­ers who plan to source elec­tri­cal prod­ucts and equip­ment from In­dia con­cluded with $400 mil­lion busi­ness at ELECRAMA 2016. In line with the PM Naren­dra Modi’s vi­sion of Make in In­dia, RBSM is a plat­form for In­dian in­dus­try to show­case its com­pet­i­tive prod­ucts and ser­vices. Fifty two coun­tries from across the globe at­tended at­tend­ing the RBSM.

In­ter­na­tional T&D Con­clave: Along with ELECRAMA-2016, the In­ter­na­tional T&D Con­clave was or­ga­nized by IEEMA, which of­fered a plat­form for the power in­dus­try to dis­cuss chal­lenges and so­lu­tions with re­gard to the trans­mis­sion and dis­tri­bu­tion sec­tor. The theme of the con­clave was Tech­nol­ogy & De­mand. CIGRE Tu­to­ri­als: One of the in­ter­est­ing con­cur­rent events at ELECRAMA was the CIGRE tu­to­ri­als. This edi­tion con­cen­trated on five top­ics: Over­head Lines, Smart Grids, HVDC, Sub­sta­tions, and HV Equip­ment.

Net­work2Net­worth: Be­ing one of the first of its kind in­ter­ac­tive plat­form— ‘NET­WORK2NET­WORTH’ —has been or­ga­nized con­cur­rently with ELECRAMA-2016 by IEEMA. The two-day event be­gan on Fe­bru­ary 16, 2016. The ob­jec­tive of this plat­form is to bridge the gap be­tween the fi­nance and power sec­tor.

In­no­va­tion Day: As a part of in­no­va­tion day, EI16 (Short form of En­gi­neer In­fi­nite 2016) was the stu­dent pro­ject com­pe­ti­tion run­ning con­cur­rently with ELECRAMA-2016 ex­hi­bi­tion this com­pe­ti­tion was an op­por­tu­nity to the stu­dents of en­gi­neer­ing (Diploma, UG, PG and Re­search Schol­ars) to lev­er­age their the­o­ret­i­cal knowl­edge and cre­ativ­ity.

Re­new­able pav­il­ion: For the first time, a ded­i­cated pav­il­ion was planned at ELECRAMA-2016 for com­pa­nies of­fer­ing re­new­able en­ergy re­lated tech­nolo­gies. The pav­il­ion gave plat­form for equip­ment man­u­fac­tur­ers, pub­lic sec­tor rep­re­sen­ta­tives from re­new­able sec­tor to dis­play and in­ter­act with vis­i­tors.

How it be­gan: ELECRAMA-2016 took us back to the ori­gins of Elec­tric­ity. Though the idea of elec­tric­ity was sparked in the early 1800s, the visu­ally de­light­ful jour­ney of the '125 years of elec­tric­ity' pav­il­ion started from 1879, when Thomas Alva Edi­son in­vented com­mer­cially vi­able elec­tric­ity. What started then as an in­ven­tion has now be­come one of the ba­sic needs of life.

In­ter­na­tional par­tic­i­pa­tion: ELECRAMA-2016 wit­nessed par­tic­i­pa­tion from coun­tries like that of Ger­many, Tai­wan, Korea, South Africa, Nepal, King­dom of Le­sotho to name a few.
