FDI in elec­tron­ics man­u­fac­tur­ing touched ` 1230 bil­lion in 2016

Elec­tron­ics and IT Min­is­ter, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said for­eign di­rect in­vest­ment (FDI) in elec­tron­ics man­u­fac­tur­ing has touched an all-time high of ` 1230 bil­lion in 2016 on the back of the gov­ern­ment’s en­abling poli­cies and its ‘Make in In­dia’ ini­tia­tive. In 2014, FDI stood at ` 110 bil­lion.

Apart from the elec­tron­ics man­u­fac­tur­ing clus­ters, the gov­ern­ment is of­fer­ing a bet­ter tax regime and in­cen­tives like MSIPS. The gov­ern­ment has also re­moved the ba­sic cus­toms duty (10 per cent) and spe­cial ad­di­tional duty (4 per cent) that had been pro­posed for charg­ers, adapters, bat­ter­ies and wired head­sets.
