New initiative to boost Digital India programme
The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) plans to deploy a chief information technology officer (CITO) in the various departments that come under the ministries.
As per MeitY’s ruling, a CITO will be appointed in 34 departments and ministries. The officer will be answerable to the current IT secretary, Aruna Sundararajan.
Further, to boost the government’s Digital India programme, the ministry has proposed to set up a National E-governance Academy. A fund of US$ 74 million (` 5 billion) will be set aside for this purpose.
To promote e-governance on a national scale, the ministry has proposed launching a mobile app called Umang. This app will function as a common platform across India for all government related services.
