LED lighting work on Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad to be completed soon
Installation of LED lights from Gachibowli to Shamshabad on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Hyderabad, for better illumination and as a means to reduce accidents, will be completed soon.
Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is taking up the ` 300 million project, which has been
funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Work on the 24.38 kilometre main carriageway from Gachibowli to Shamshabad is underway and, once completed, it will be the first expressway in the state to have LED lighting. HGCL has roped in Philips India Limited for this project, and authorities said the initiative to install LED lights will help in slashing the power bills by about 50 per cent. Besides working on this project, Philips will also be responsible for operations and maintenance for five years.
The 24.38 kilometre stretch will be equipped with nearly 5,000 LED lights, out of which close to 1,800 lights will be installed on the main carriageway, about 2,300 on the service roads, and the rest on the upper and lower ramps.
