Ranchi Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion plans to brighten up city streets with LED lights

Ranchi Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (RMC) has de­cided to in­stall LED street­lights all over the city with the help of EESL.

RMC re­cently passed a pro­posal to put up 16,000 LED bulbs on blank polls and re­place the ex­ist­ing 16,000 sodium vapour lights and tube­lights on the city’s streets. The project is ex­pected to cost ap­prox­i­mately ` 430 mil­lion.

The power con­sump­tion of the street­lights cur­rently in use is 4.42MW, a fig­ure that is ex­pected to come down to 1.93MW when they are re­placed by LED bulbs. The state will be sav­ing ` 3.2 mil­lion per an­num, ap­prox­i­mately.

EESL has signed a me­moran­dum of un­der­stand­ing with the state gov­ern­ment to in­stall 100,000 LED bulbs in ar­eas com­ing un­der ur­ban lo­cal bod­ies in­clud­ing Hazaribag, Dhan­bad, Deoghar, Ba­suk­i­nath, Me­din­i­na­gar, Dumka, Aditya­pur and Mango. It has started by putting up 2500 LED bulbs for the Shra­vani mela and 700 for the state’s global in­vestors’ sum­mit on an emer­gency ba­sis.
