Ranchi Municipal Corporation plans to brighten up city streets with LED lights
Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to install LED streetlights all over the city with the help of EESL.
RMC recently passed a proposal to put up 16,000 LED bulbs on blank polls and replace the existing 16,000 sodium vapour lights and tubelights on the city’s streets. The project is expected to cost approximately ` 430 million.
The power consumption of the streetlights currently in use is 4.42MW, a figure that is expected to come down to 1.93MW when they are replaced by LED bulbs. The state will be saving ` 3.2 million per annum, approximately.
EESL has signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government to install 100,000 LED bulbs in areas coming under urban local bodies including Hazaribag, Dhanbad, Deoghar, Basukinath, Medininagar, Dumka, Adityapur and Mango. It has started by putting up 2500 LED bulbs for the Shravani mela and 700 for the state’s global investors’ summit on an emergency basis.
