LED LIGHT­ING COULD SAVE IN­DIA ` 400 BIL­LION A YEAR: PIYUSH GOYAL

Power Min­is­ter Piyush Goyal has said that In­dia will prob­a­bly be­come the first coun­try in the world to switch to LEDs for all its light­ing needs by 2019, which could help the na­tion save over ` 400 bil­lion a year.

State-run En­ergy Ef­fi­ciency Ser­vices Ltd (EESL) has inked pacts with pub­lic sec­tor oil mar­ket­ing com­pa­nies In­dian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hin­dus­tan Petroleum to sell LED bulbs, tube­lights and fans at over 54,500 petrol pumps. The min­is­ter clar­i­fied that con­sumers buy­ing th­ese prod­ucts at bunks can­not avail the EMI fa­cil­ity.

The pro­gramme is ini­tially be­ing launched at petrol pumps in Delhi.
