LED LIGHTING COULD SAVE INDIA ` 400 BILLION A YEAR: PIYUSH GOYAL
Power Minister Piyush Goyal has said that India will probably become the first country in the world to switch to LEDs for all its lighting needs by 2019, which could help the nation save over ` 400 billion a year.
State-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has inked pacts with public sector oil marketing companies Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum to sell LED bulbs, tubelights and fans at over 54,500 petrol pumps. The minister clarified that consumers buying these products at bunks cannot avail the EMI facility.
The programme is initially being launched at petrol pumps in Delhi.
