Sam­sung Elec­tron­ics Co. Ltd has de­vel­oped what it claims is the world’s small­est DRAM chip. The ‘sec­ond-generation’ 10-nanome­tre class, 8-gi­ga­bit DRAM chips with im­proved en­ergy ef­fi­ciency and data pro­cess­ing per­for­mance are geared to­wards premium data-crunch­ing elec­tron­ics such as cloud com­put­ing cen­tres, mo­bile de­vices and high-speed graph­ics cards. X-fac­tor • Able to de­liver 30 per cent more pro­duc­tiv­ity com­pared to Sam­sung’s first-generation DRAM chips • The 8GB DDR4 can op­er­ate at 3,600Mbps per pin, com­pared to 3,200Mbps of the com­pany’s 1x-nm 8GB DDR4.
