Deepak takes two!

The Indian touring cars return with some great action at the Kari Motor Speedway

OUND 1 OF THE ITC CLASS OF the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship took place at the Kari Motor Speedway, with Deepak walking away with a double.

Qualifying took place on Saturday, with Arjun Narendran putting in the fastest lap followed by Deepak Paul Chinnappa and Ashish Ramasamy. A mechanical problem meant Arjun could not start race 1. Deepak had a terrible start, overcooking his clutch and dropping down to tenth place but he climbed back to the lead. He developed mechanical troubles mid-race, allowing Ashish the victory, while C Rajaram placed third.

In race 2 Deepak took the lead in to C1. Arjun moved in to second place, and Ashish was in third. Arjun had a huge moment and dropped to eighth. He managed to salvage third place. Ashish finished second with Deepak on the top rung.

In race 3, Deepak got the better of Ashish at the start and was behind Arjun going in to C1. D Vidya Prakash climbed up from P8 to fourth. Arjun had another slide at the last corner giving up his lead to Deepak. Ashish managed to get in to second, with Arjun in third. However, Ashish’s car threw up mechanical issues and he couldn’t finish. Deepak won his second race of the weekend, followed by Arjun in second and D Vidya Prakash — who has been racing for 50 years now — was on the third rung of the podium.L
