AMG GT R becomes the fastest production car to go around the BIC
THEBUDDHINTERNATIONAL Circuit, Noida has been home to not just Formula 1 cars, but also supercars of all shapes and sizes. By the time we go to press, the fastest AMG will have launched in India but that hasn’t stopped Mercedes-Benz from putting on a hot lap in the hands of AMG’s test driver, Christian Hohenadel. And ‘The Beast of the Green Hell’ has broken the previous record of the Audi R8 V10 Plus by almost three seconds, clocking the lap in just 2:09:08 minutes. We know that the time does not hold much significance, because not every manufacturer takes their car around the Buddh. But that does not take anything away from the fact that the AMG GT R is a record holder for being the fastest rear-wheel drive production car around the Nürburgring.
Mercedes-Benz India had also taken the SLS AMG around the track. Fastest during its time, it was still slower than this GT R by full five seconds.
How does the AMG manage to go so fast? Find out in our anniversary issue, when we drive the GT R at the Buddh International Circuit ourselves and share the evo India experience. We regret to inform you that the designation of Sugato Sen, the author of the article on GST, in the previous issue of evo India was erroneously reported as
Deputy Director. The correct designation is Deputy Director General.
