Mercedes-AMG E 63
Living with a sportscar
SUPERCARS ARE NOT practical they say. You cannot drive them to do your daily chores. Especially in our hostile conditions, where the roads are filled with potholes and there are speedbreakers welcoming you to break the nose of your car. But you still crave 500bhp+ and have a penchant for that loud exhaust note. What should you do? Simple. You get a German sports sedan. In my case, it was the E 63 AMG.
The E 63 is an everyday car. Four adults can sit comfortably and even go touring, if required. And all this with no broken backs. I still remember the day when I picked up my wife and baby from the hospital along with my parents and brought them home. The joy of driving an understated sportscar to take care of regular duties is incomparable. I think it is important to have an everyday car when you’re spending more than a crore of rupees, rather than a weekend-only machine.
Two of the most important facets of the E 63 are its engine and exhaust. AMG has managed to keep the turbo lag minimal and the exhaust note is simply, mindnumbing. My only grouses are the lack of AWD and a dull gearbox.
I bought the E 63 from Sundaram Motors, Bangalore and the buying experience was stress free. I currently service my car at Mahavir Motors, Hyderbad and end up spending `4-5 lakh on the car, every
Syear, with the exception of fuel. Their service is excellent too, with welltrained technicians and courteous people. I am waiting for the warranty to get over now so that I can put the AMS Alpha 7 package on the car. Currently I have equipped it with airintake upgrades from AMS Alpha and an exhaust from Capristo.
I think the E 63 AMG is perfect for our conditions. It can be your daily driver and occasionally give supercars a run for their money, whenever you want it to. It is always nice to be fast, understatedly. Toast to my sleeper car! ⌧
