Regional competitions for Fashion Technology

of NSDC responsible for preparing Indian team to participate in World Skill Competitions, internationally has partnered with FICCI to organise Regional and National Competitions, 2014 for Fashion Technology. The shortlisted candidate after the national competition will represent India at World Skills in 2015.
FICCI has partnered with Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) to conduct the national and regional competitions this year. The regional competitions at ATDC Bangalore, Kolkata, Faridabad and Indore were huge success as compared to last time which were organised only at two locations two years earlier. The competitions saw increase in participating candidates as compared to the last time and participation of industry experts as jury for the first time.
The first leg of the competition was organised for the south region at ATDC Bangalore on April 14 and 15. About 25 candidates from 12 institutes participated at the competition. The candidates competed for six hours on the first day and worked on test module of preparing classic trousers. At the end of day one, out of 25 candidates, 15 were shortlisted. These 15 candidates competed on day two and worked on test module of ladies jacket. ATDC Bangalore had invited the jury from textile Industry to judge the competition. It was tough task for them as competition ran close. Ultimately the top three candidates were shortlisted who will represent the south region in the national competition to be held in Gurgaon in July. The winner of the competition was Siva Kumar from Angel Institute, Tirupur. Kamalakshi from M.S. Ramaiah Polytechnic stood second and Ghulam from Army Institute, Bangalore stood third. K Venugopal, Technical Delegate from India to World Skills International was present on both the days at the competition. At the presentation ceremony, he applauded ATDC Bangalore for organising the competition and FICCI for doing necessary marketing and announcements. The second leg of the competition was organised for the east region at ATDC Kolkata on April 30 and May 1. About 10 candidates from six institutes participated in the competition. The candidates competed for six hours on the first day and worked on test module of preparing classic trousers. All the candidates competed again on day two and worked on test module of ladies jacket. Like Bangalore region, ATDC Kolkata had invited Jury from textile industry to judge the competition. It was again a tough Regional Competition – South: April 14 and 15, 2014
