Seminar and candle light congregation for Fight Against Smuggling and Counterfeiting
FICCI CASCADE organised a seminar and a candle light congregation in Guwahati on July 29, 2015, which witnessed an enthusiastic participation from industry, consumer bodies, legal experts, consumers and students from across Guwahati in Assam.
Rajiv Kumar Bora, Additional Chief Secretary, Administrative Reforms & Training, Education and Information Technology Department, Government of Assam, the chief guest, congratulated FICCI CASCADE for initiating the consumer movement against counterfeit and smuggled goods. “Looking at the magnitude of the problem, which is up to one trillion US dollars, this is the call of the hour,” stated Bora. He said that the menace of counterfeiting and smuggling was rampant in North East due to its porous borders.
He emphasized that activities involving counterfeiting and smuggling curbed the economic independence and one must pledge to not use fake products and fight the menace of smuggling which was in the larger interest of the national economy. He highlighted that the government was not only losing revenue but also the ability to provide services to the people. “Our democratic quality suffers due to this illicit market,” said Bora.
