FICCI signs MoU with Pune Municipal Corporation for Smart City Project
FICCI and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 4, 2015 in Pune for developing Pune as a smart city.
According to the MoU, FICCI will jointly work with PMC and all other stakeholders such as industry experts and civil society to develop vision, goals and strategies for Pune as a smart city and thereafter support implementation of the same. FICCI will align the interest of industry members with those of the government and will also provide technology support to the Pune Smart City project through the FICCI smart city committee.
FICCI will assist the PMC through required consultation and advisory inputs on policy advocacy relevant to the development of Pune under the smart cities initiative. FICCI will also assist the PMC through the process of “City Challenge” competition and thereby support the city to get designated as a smart city.
FICCI, through its members, will work in collaboration with PMC in the following areas: Creation of Financial plans for various sectors & creation of innovative sources of the Municipal Finance Legal & contracting Project based support for projects in areas like Transport, Solid Waste Management, Water Supply, Housing, Sewerage, Health, Education, Storm Water Drainage Capacity building to plan, design and execute projects efficiently Workshop to identify the challenges and solutions Advise on appropriate governance and implementation frameworks Speaking at the MoU signing meeting, Mr. Kunal Kumar, Commissioner, Pune Municipal Corporation said that we are proud to be the first city which has formally entered in an arrangement for smart city development with FICCI which is one of the oldest apex industry bodies in our country. This partnership will result in a collaboration that will enable us to create a platform for improving our urban services in the future in the areas of transport, solid waste management, water supply, housing, sewerage, health and education. This cooperation will also work towards capacity building of the PMC officials to plan, design & execute projects efficiently and also to create a smart city vision for the city which will be vital for achieving the goals of PMC in the coming years.
Dr. A Didar Singh, Secretary General, FICCI expressing his views on this engagement said that our association with the Pune Municipal Corporation will go a long way in handholding the local body to achieve its vision of a smart city. “We will bring expertise from private sector to provide best solutions to the city in upgrading its services. We will need support from the State Government of Maharashtra in making this partnership successful,” he said. Lauding the “100 Smart Cities” mission of the Govt. of India, Dr. Singh said that FICCI is keen to associate with many cities to push forward the Smart Cities agenda.
