The Gov­ern­ment of West is or­ga­niz­ing the 4th edi­tion of Ben­gal Global Busi­ness Sum­mit 2018 on Jan­uary 16-17, 2018 in Kolkata. FICCI is the Sum­mit Part­ner and KPMG is the Knowl­edge Part­ner. As a pre­lude to the Sum­mit, Roundta­bles on Gems & Jew­ellery and Ap­parel & Tex­tiles was or­gan­ised in Mumbai on July 4, 2017.

Dr Amit Mi­tra, Min­is­ter-in­Charge, Fi­nance and In­dus­try, Com­merce & En­ter­prises De­part­ments, Gov­ern­ment of West Ben­gal; Ra­jiva Sinha, Ad­di­tional Chief Sec­re­tary, In­dus­try, Com­merce & En­ter­prises Depts., Gov­ern­ment of West Ben­gal and Van­dana Yadav, MD, WBIDC, ad­dressed the ses­sions. Gems & Jew­ellery Roundtable: West Ben­gal has a rich and con­tin­u­ing tra­di­tion of crafts­man­ship for hand­made gold jew­ellery. Around 80% of skilled ar­ti­sans and gold­smiths all over In­dia are from West Ben­gal. The size of the sec­tor in Ben­gal is es­ti­mated at Rs. 38000 crore in 2016-17 which is 11% of the na­tional turnover. The Govt. tar­gets to in­crease the share to 20% and make West Ben­gal the Gems & Jew­ellery hub of In­dia. The Gems & Jew­ellery Roundtable was at­tended by prom­i­nent in­dus­try play­ers/as­so­ci­a­tions. Ap­parel & Tex­tiles Roundtable: Tex­tiles ac­counts for around 9% of the State GDP. The State oc­cu­pies prime po­si­tion in pro­duc­tion of knitwear gar­ments, jute prod­ucts and hosiery. Un­der Tex­pro Ben­gal, 12 Tex­tiles Parks are com­ing up in the state in over 530 acres in 4 ma­jor cat­e­gories - Ap­parel & Gar­ments; Dye­ing & Pro­cess­ing; Pow­er­loom; Ap­parel & Tech­ni­cal Tex­tiles. A mega Pow­er­loom clus­ter with in­te­grated fa­cil­i­ties from spin­ning to weav­ing is be­ing de­vel­oped. The fo­cus is on de­vel­op­ment of five sub­sec­tors: hosiery &in­ner­wear, linen, work­wear, tech­ni­cal tex­tiles and tex­tiles ma­chin­ery. The Ap­parel & Tex­tiles Roundtable was at­tended by prom­i­nent in­dus­try play­ers/as­so­ci­a­tions from the sec­tor.
