FICCI Organizes India Pavilion at INTERPHEX in New York to Showcase Potential of Pharma Machinery Industry
Dr Rohini Sridhar, Chief Operating Officer, Apollo Specialty Hospitals (Madurai Division), spoke about the 'Challenges in Setting up Outreach Hospitals in Rural Areas in Tamil Nadu' and shared a detailed presentation on the current scenario of rural healthcare, highlighting the poor infrastructure and lack of doctors, medical insurance and affordable healthcare. At the same time, she also informed about community service programmes, like free medical camps, health awareness programmes, medical education for poor and other special activities, that have been initiated by Apollo Hospitals in Madurai.
Dr V Balaji, Convener, Healthcare Panel, FICCI-TNSC (Tamil Nadu State Council) and Senior Consultant Vascular Surgeon, Apollo Hospitals, said that nearly 70 per cent of the population lives in rural India and it is challenging for the government to provide quality healthcare for individuals. He stated lack of infrastructure, dearth of medical functionaries and accessibility still presented major challenges for nearly 800 million rural population. There is a dire need for implementation of new practices and procedures to ensure that quality and timely healthcare reaches the deprived population.
