FICCI Strengthens its Footprint in Singapore
A14-member delegation of FICCI led by President Rashesh Shah accompanied by Dilip Chenoy, Secretary General, FICCI, and members of Defence and Space Committee participated in Inspreneur 2.0 and 'India-Singapore: Stepping into the Future', business event addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Singapore on 4 June 2018. The prime minister was in Singapore for an official bilateral visit and to deliver the keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue.
A CEOs' roundtable over dinner was organized with Prime Minister Modi and CEOs' from Singapore and Heads of Chambers of Commerce in Singapore, which was attended by Shah and Chenoy.
During the visit, FICCI signed two MoUs to enhance India-Singapore engagement at the business meeting presided over by the Prime Minister of India and S Iswaran, Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations for Singapore, at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore.
FICCI's MoU with Singapore Space & Technology Association (SSTA) aims to enhance interaction between India and Singapore industry in space & satellite technology, and facilitate the options to develop new sourcing, supply chain, and technology partners between the two countries. Also, the FICCI space delegation discussed areas of collaboration with Singapore companies during the 'SingaporeIndia Space Sector Roundtable'.
The MoU between FICCI and Food Industry Asia (FIA) focuses on initiatives, which will enhance food trade between India and Singapore and build capacities of Indian food businesses operators and share best practices on issues such as regulatory changes, food safety, food quality, and nutrition.
Matthew Kovac, Executive Director, FIA, said, 'This MoU is a significant step forward for the food industries of both countries. FIA has benefited from working closely with FICCI to share expertise and knowledge in areas such as front of pack nutrition labelling and food safety throughout 2017. This official signing cements our relationship and puts us in a better position to jointly tackle the biggest challenges we see facing the food industry in Asia.'
Chenoy said, 'Like many countries in Asia, public health levels in India are on the decline and the industry finds itself in the spotlight. Signing this MoU with FIA is an important step towards us advancing food innovation for the benefit of consumers. We will benefit from FIA's regional experience to enhance the capabilities of food businesses in India, while ensuring the industry is represented in important dialogues across Asia.'
In order to strengthen business relations and promote economic cooperation between enterprises in the two countries, FICCI also signed a renewal of the MoU with Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) to promote trade, investment, and business between the two countries
Shah and Chenoy also called on Singapore veteran diplomat Ambassador Tommy Koh and Senior Emeritus Minister and Singapore's former Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong.
