A Day at Netflix

FICCI Business Digest - - Special Report -

The agenda of the interaction with senior leadership at Netflix was to understand: Ÿ The changing dynamics of the entertainment market and how it could further grow in India with a possible co-existence of studios and web portals Ÿ The changing landscape surrounding the film & entertainment industry Ÿ The dynamics of content distributors taking on the role of content producers and the resulting impact on big studios Ÿ Taxation policies and production models adopted by web entertainment portals like Netflix and Amazon.

The USP of Netflix is the possibility for unlimited viewing of content without having to watch a single commercial as they are a completely subscription driven service. Hence there is great scope to select and curate interesting and diverse content without having to depend on ad revenue or other investor concerns.

On network access and net neutrality, the Netflix team responded that India is headed in the right direction and expressed confidence that policymakers will protect interests of all stakeholders for fair access. Industry led initiatives in addressing piracy such as ACE (Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment) and CAP (The Coalition Against Piracy) were highlighted.
