The day started with a visit to Fox Sports where the del­e­ga­tion was wel­comed by Eric Shanks – Pres­i­dent, COO & Ex­ec­u­tive Pro­ducer, FOX Sports. He was joined by Michael Mul­vi­hill – Ex­ec­u­tive Vice Pres­i­dent, Re­search, League Op­er­a­tions & Strat­egy and Brad Zager – Ex­ec­u­tive Vice Pres­i­dent, Pro­duc­tion & Op­er­a­tions. The del­e­ga­tion was given a guided tour of the stu­dio where they had a first­hand view of the size and scale of the op­er­a­tion and state of art tech­nol­ogy used at Fox Sports.

Eric opened the in­ter­ac­tion by ex­plain­ing how the US sports ecosys­tem evolved through school and uni­ver­sity games. He men­tioned that ow­ing to his pro­fes­sional work he has had a per­sonal op­por­tu­nity to ob­serve the im­pact of sports on so­cio-eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment and con­tri­bu­tion to GDP. In­vest­ment in sports pro­motes healthy life-style changes, cre­ates al­ter­nate ca­reer op­por­tu­ni­ties for youth. It ben­e­fits al­lied in­dus­tries by driv­ing de­mand for and growth in sports goods, fan mer­chan­dise and ticket rev­enues. It also en­gen­ders so­cial affin­ity to­wards sport, which has de­sir­able ef­fects on the men­tal and phys­i­cal well-be­ing of the pop­u­lace, which is an im­por­tant fac­tor for hu­man cap­i­tal de­vel­op­ment. In­cen­tivis­ing in­vest­ment in sports is likely to bear fruit for In­dia's ef­forts to­wards a larger sports in­dus­try.
