Emami adds to its per­sonal care and health­care ca­pac­ity

EMAMI Ltd, the FMCG flag­ship of Rs 50000 crore di­ver­si­fied Emami Group, has added 1.1 lakh MTPA ca­pac­ity to its per­sonal care and health­care items port­fo­lio, by putting up its largest man­u­fac­tur­ing fa­cil­ity at Pacharia in Kam­rup district of As­sam with a to­tal cap­i­tal out­lay of Rs 300 crore. At present, the com­pany has an over­all pro­duc­tion ca­pac­ity of 1.63 lakh MTPA of per­sonal care and health­care prod­ucts, top com­pany of­fi­cials said on Tues­day. The new unit will in­crease the com­pany’s over­all ca­pac­ity to 2.73 lakh MTPA. Some of the pop­u­lar brands from Emami’s sta­ble in­clude Navratna, Boro­Plus, Zandu Balm, Fair & Hand­some and Kesh King.

The Pacharia plant, in­au­gu­rated on Tues­day by the As­sam Chief Min­is­ter Sar­bananda Sonowal, is Emami’s third plant in As­sam. The other two plants are lo­cated at Ab­hoy­pur and Amin­gaon. Emami also has man­u­fac­tur­ing fa­cil­i­ties in Pant­nager (Ut­tarak­hand), Kolkata (West Ben­gal) and Don­gri (Ma­ha­rash­tra), Masat (Dadra and Na­gar Haveli) and Vapi (Gujarat), and an over­seas unit in Bangladesh.

“Our fu­ture in­vest­ments would be in line with the mar­ket de­mand and As­sam, be­ing an in­vestor friendly des­ti­na­tion, would al­ways re­main a pre­ferred man­u­fac­tur­ing lo­ca­tion for Emami,” said RS Agar­wal, joint chair­man, Emami Group.

The new plant at Pacharia throws up a clus­ter fa­cil­ity for cos­metic, ayurvedic and health­care prod­ucts with state-ofthe-art stor­age and han­dling fa­cil­ity will cater to all the dis­tri­bu­tion chan­nels of Emami spread across the coun­try.

The new unit with 4000-KW ca­pac­ity con­nected elec­tric load also has pro­vi­sion of of au­to­mated ef­flu­ent treat­ment plant to en­sure “zero dis­charge” from the unit to tackle fac­tory ef­flu­ents and safe guard the en­vi­ron­ment of the re­gion and is first man­u­fac­tur­ing setup us­ing solid fuel fired steam gen­er­at­ing unit, said RS Goenka, an­other joint-chair­man, Emami Group.

The Pacharia man­u­fac­tur­ing fa­cil­ity in­ci­den­tally is the first unit set up with 42 pack­ing lines with a ca­pac­ity of pro­duc­ing 3000 Ml units per an­num and also the first man­u­fac­tur­ing set up to have an au­to­mated PLC-based touch-less man­u­fac­tur­ing fa­cil­ity. It also has state-ofthe-art high speed ma­chiner­ies for tube and bot­tle filling, he said.
