Mahin­dra launches 1.7 tonne pay­load Bolero pick-up

Mahin­dra & Mahin­dra, man­u­fac­turer of com­mer­cial ve­hi­cles on Thurs­day in­tro­duced new Mahin­dra Bolero pick-up with at­trac­tive fea­tures with a start­ing price of Rs 6.66 lakh to boost sales in the fes­tive sea­son.

The Mum­bai-head­quar­tered au­tomaker is the mar­ket leader with 62 per cent mar­ket share led by Mahin­dra Bolero pick-up range in the small com­mer­cial ve­hi­cle seg­ment. It com­petes with ri­vals Dost pick-up range from Ashok Ley­land and Zenon pick-up se­ries from Tata Mo­tors.

Mahin­dra has in­tro­duced In­dia’s first larger 1.7 tonne Mahin­dra Bolero pickup to cater to the grow­ing de­mand for higher pay­load ca­pac­ity. The new range chris­tened Maha Bolero pick-up will also have an all new in­te­rior and bet­ter seat­ing com­fort with a wider co-driver seat. The Maha Bolero pick-up range con­sists of dif­fer­ent body styles, cargo box lengths and vary­ing pay­load ca­pac­i­ties of 1,300 kg, 1,500 kg and 1,700 kg, suit­able for var­i­ous cus­tomer seg­ments.

In­tro­duc­tory fes­tive sea­son pric­ing for the 1.3 tonne vari­ant starts at Rs 6.66 lakh, the 1.5 tonne vari­ant at Rs 6.66 lakh while the larger 1.7 tonne vari­ant costs Rs 6.88 lakh at Pune show­room. This new range is pow­ered by the 2.5 litre M2DI-CR diesel en­gine.

How­ever, it is avail­able in dif­fer­ent spec­i­fi­ca­tions as well. The mo­tor churns out 63 HP for the 1.3 tonne, 1.5 tonne vari­ants while it de­liv­ers 70 HP for the 1.7 tonne ver­sion.

Ac­cord­ing to of­fi­cials, it gives 14 km per litre. The new Bolero pick-up comes with a dou­ble bear­ing axle, strong 9-leaf spring sus­pen­sion and wide 15-inch tyres to sup­port in­creased load ca­pac­ity. The sus­pe­nion setup prom­ises 1 lakh km of ser­vice life with­out any main­te­nance. To boost sales, the com­pany is woo­ing buy­ers with two years of free main­te­nance and a Rs 4 lakh buy­back guar­an­tee af­ter four years.

“As a mar­ket leader for over 20 years, we have now raised the bar in the pick-up seg­ment and pro­vide the best cus­tomer value by in­tro­duc­ing In­dia’s first pick-up with 1,700 kg pay­load ca­pac­ity,” said Vee­jay Nakra, chief of sales & mar­ket­ing (au­to­mo­tive divi­sion). “In the last six months, Mahin­dra sold over 85,000 units in the small com­mer­cial ve­hi­cle seg­ment, clock­ing 17 per cent growth, against same pe­riod last year,” Nakra said. He said the com­mer­cial ve­hi­cles seg­ment has bouced back with sales pick­ing up af­ter a lull, im­pact­ing sales.

While Mahin­dra sold 1,60,000 units of its Bolero pick-up range in FY18, Tata Mo­tors Tata Ace fam­ily re­tailed 1,52,498 units. Mahin­dra has sold over 10 lakh units if Bolero pick-up in the last 20 years, re­tain­ing the dom­i­nant lead­er­ship in the seg­ment.
