Bose Wave Music System III
One of the classics in audio excellence, the Bose Wave Music System has just got an upgrade. The latest version comes with a touch pad on the top for on/off as well as a new alarm with two presets. The AM/FM tuner is also easier to use with info display for supported stations.
Audiophiles are very particular about what they hear and how they hear it. No compromises will do. It is for these people that Sennheiser has come out with the HD700, a highend headphone.
Let us make it clear at the very outset that this is not something for someone who wants to hear music from their phone while travelling in a city bus. This is a black-and-silver headphone you will plug on while lounging on a La-Z-Boy sipping your favourite poison.
The HD700 is a big headset, big enough to come in a wooden box all its own. Still after a few hours of listening pleasure you don’t even feel the halo or any heat inside the ear cups. The cushioning effect on the ear cups as well as headband is pure bliss.
Even better is the sound. We tried it with a wide range on genres from opera to classical and rock to blues, and there was never a moment of discomfort or a note that was off key. The music is soft, but you still don’t miss out anything. With audio reproduction in the 10 to 42,000 Hz range almost all kinds of music is easy covered and enjoyed with the headphone.
Plus, to ensure the quality of the sound, the transducer is mounted in high-precision gauze made of stainless steel. The open design of the ear cups coupled with the slight angle of the speakers ensures that the sound is not harsh and does not blow away your ear drums. In fact, it feels as if you are listening to a performance is an acoustically designed theatre.
The HD700 comes with an extralong fabric-finish lead so that you can take your music where you want it. But this has a 6.3-mm jack which you find only in Hi-Fi systems these days. You will need a converter to use it with a 3.5mm jack and that will reduce the quality to an extent.
And, there is one catch to this exquisite audio experience and that is the price. The HD700 costs
54,990. But we don’t think the kind of people this device is meant for will really mind.
