STILL AS GOOD

The Wave Music System from Bose is one of the classics of the audio industry. So it is only natural that when an icon like that goes for an upgrade, music lovers like us are overly excited.

The Wave Music System III is not a complete revamp of the earlier version that came out in 2004. For instance there is now a touch pad on top for on/off as well as snooze for the alarm. The new alarm, meanwhile, has two presets with separate volume controls. The AM/FM tuner has a easier to use scanner and info display for supported stations.

The Wave III looks just like the earlier Wave radio unit. However, Bose has marked the spot where the touchpad is so that the new feature stands out—you would need to take the sticker out soon after. The remote is sleek and very easy to navigate, but there are absolutely no

controls on the body. There is a Soundlink option in case you want to connect a device using Bluetooth, but that will cost you more. The other connection option is a 3.5mm auxiliary jack and cable that let you link to most devices.

We were disappointed the remote does not let you control the plugged-in device in auxiliary mode. In this day and age, Bose could have, and should have, included a USB port so that people can play their audio files directly. While Bose might not be a big fan of MP3s, it a reality that CDs are losing the popularity race to tiny USB dongles.

One thing that is a given with any Bose device is the audio quality and the Wave III is no different. Be it the FM or a CD the audio quality is superb. However, we would not recommend this for Hard Rock or Metal fans, the Wave III is for lovers of the finer things in life, Classical, Jazz and Blues. Try waking up to a Gayatri Mantra on the Wave III and we guarantee you a bliss full day. The music quality is such, almost ethereal. However, we felt that at lover volumes some details were getting lost and we needed to keep the volume above 60 per cent for the best results. But boy, aren’t those results good.

For those who have been lusting to buy a Wave Radio this might be the time to go for it. But remember it hasn’t got any cheaper.

BAG IT OR JUNK IT?

A USB port would have been great.
