developer conference held in San Francisco, Apple announced the iOS 10 for iPhone and iPad with a few major upgrades. Claimed to be the biggest iOS release ever, there are 10 major features in the new OS including redesigned lock screen with rich notifications, quick interaction with apps and capability of Siri to do more by working with apps.

Raise to Wake automatically wakes the screen as you raise your iPhone, making it easier to view all your notifications at a glance, from the lock screen. Notifications, Today View and Control Center are accessible with just a swipe or press, and 3D Touch on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus can be used to interact with notifications on the lock screen itself.

With Apple opening Siri to develop- ers, they will be able to build on the intelligence that Siri offers and let users interact directly with apps using just their voice. This will make it easier for developers to design their apps to work with Siri for messaging, phone calls, photo search, ride booking, personal payments and workouts, or use Siri to control CarPlay apps, access climate controls or adjust radio settings within automakers’ apps. Siri intelligence brings new QuickType features which will now go beyond suggesting the next best word to write, and will intelligently recommend dates, locations, contacts and check calendar availability.

Messages will now support playing of videos within the message. Apple Music has been integrated into Messages. More emojis have been added, and Apple is going to highlight 'emojifiable' words that you will be able to tap and automatically turn into an emoji. It will allow you to say things using larger or smaller type. MEMORIES With iOS 10, the Photo app has become smarter. There is a new button called ‘Memories’ that scans photos and videos, finds favourite and forgotten events, trips and people, and presents them in a beautiful collection. It also contains the Memory Movie – an automatically edited movie with theme music, titles and cinematic transitions. Memories uses advanced computer vision to group the people, places and things inside your images into albums with ondevice facial, object and scene recognition.

Maps has become simpler and more intuitive to use. It has been opened to developers with new extensions. It will now deliver directions to where you are most likely to go next, based

on your routine or appointments on your calendar.

Apple is focusing on home automation. The Cupertino giant has integrated the Home app in iOS 10, delivering a simple and secure way to set up, manage and control your home in one place. Accessories can be managed individually or grouped into scenes, so they work together with a single command and can be controlled by using Siri. They can be managed remotely or set up for home automation with Apple TV, and can respond with automatic triggers set by time, day, location or action.

The UI of Apple Music has gone through a complete overhaul, making it a clear and simple experience. The tabs Library, For You, Browse and Radio have been completely rede- signed to provide an even greater sense of place, and a Search tab has been added to make finding music easier.

iOS 10 features a redesigned News app with a new For You, organised into distinct sections that make it easier to find stories, support for breaking news notifications and paid subscriptions. Apple will also be introducing a subscription option on Apple News.

Apple claims that iMessage, FaceTime and HomeKit use end-toend encryption to protect users' data by making it unreadable by Apple and others. Starting with iOS 10, Apple is using a technology called 'Differential Privacy' to help discover the usage patterns of a large number of users without compromising on individual privacy.

Phone adds integration for thirdparty VoIP calls, voicemail transcription and a new caller ID extension for spam alerts. Built-in app updates include Safari split-view for iPad, Notes collaboration and Live Photos editing. Apple Pay can now be used to make secure and private purchases on participating websites using Safari, in addition to paying in-stores and within apps. Bedtime Alarm in the Clock app lets you set a regular sleep schedule and receive reminders.

The developer preview of iOS 10 is available to iOS Developer Program members and a public beta program will be available to iOS users in July. It will be available for upgrade on iPhone 5 and later models, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad 4th generation, iPad mini 2 and later models and iPod touch 6th generation, later this year.
