on a personal note with actor-producer Sibi Sathyaraj
The 35-year-old Tamil actor and producer has a degree in commerce. Popularly known as Sibiraj, he started his career in acting in 2003 with the film student number 1, which didn’t do well at the box office. He has shared screen space in many movies with his father, actor Sathyaraj, who is known for his role as Kattappa in the blockbuster movie Baahubali. Sibi’s recent release sathya, a crime thriller, is earning him accolades from both the critics and audiences.
What role does an artist play in society?
The main role of an artist is to entertain people. However, if the actor also happens to be a star then he does have some degree of social responsibility as to what he/she conveys in a film.
Did you face any problem in the film industry, initially?
comparisons with my father. However, they started to fade after my movies Naaigal Jaakirathai and Sathya.
What brought you closer to the film industry?
I hail from a film family. Being a producer has taught me many things the industry faces and has brought me closer.
Your most challenging or favourite role so far?
The most challenging role was for the movie Sathya. i played the role of an nri, which required more style, attitude and sophistication in my body language. i had to work more on it.
You are currently working on?
Movie Ranga, an action thriller shot mostly in Kashmir.

Sapiens, recommended by [actor] Kamal Haasan sir in a Tamil magazine.
Major challenges that our country is facing?
intolerance, lack of safety for women and children.
How does the social and political climate in India impact your artistic/creative expression?
At present, I don’t let that affect my choice of scripts.
What is your message to the youth of India?
dream big, stay positive, work hard and embrace what comes.
