Lucknow, Chennai, Guwahati airports to be expanded
Airports Authority of india’s expansion and upgradation plan of integrated terminals at chennai, guwahati and lucknow airports has been approved by the cabinet committee on economic affairs.
in order to meet the growing aviation demand, AAI has planned infrastructure expansion of a few airports like chennai, guwahati, lucknow, Agartala, Patna, srinagar, Pune, Trichy, Vijayawada, Port Blair, Jaipur, mangalore, dehradun, Jabalpur, Kolhapur, goa, rupsi, leh, calicut, imphal, Varanasi and Bhubaneswar with a capex of ₹20,178 crore in the next 4-5 years.
The new integrated terminal building of lucknow airport will have an area of 88,000 sq mt along with the existing terminal building, having an area of 16,292 sq mt. it will be able to handle combined annual traffic of 13.6 million passengers. The total built-up area of the proposed terminal building of chennai airport shall be 3,36,000 sq mt with an annual capacity to handle 35 million passengers.
The new terminal building of guwahati airport will be spread across 1,02,500 sq mt to handle 9 million passengers per annum.
