Five oil PSUS ink joint venture for northeast gas grid
ajoint venture agreement was signed among five petroleum and natural gas Psus – namely, iocl, ongc, gail, oil and nrl – in guwahati for executing the northeast natural gas pipeline grid project. it is being seen as a step towards PM narendra Modi’s ambitious urja ganga gas Pipeline Project.
The formation of the JV company is aimed to develop, build, operate and maintain natural gas pipeline grid connecting guwahati with major northeastern cities and load centres like numaligarh Refinery including integrating it with gas producing fields across NE region.
The length of the proposed gas pipeline grid is 1,500 km and would be built at ₹6,000 crore. it would be commissioned within four years.
The company will have equal equity contribution from all the JV partners for development of this project.
The project will connect the capitals of all eight northeastern states, assam, arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, nagaland, Tripura and sikkim. it will connect all ne states to the national gas grid through Barauni-guwahati gas pipeline being laid by gail.
