In conversation with Adhuna Akhtar...
Q Tell us something about the looks that you created during the session.
A The looks I and my team created for this Look & Learn session were from the collections that our stylists had put together for b:blunt salons. The looks shown here were taken from our ranges such as Peaches, Warrior Women and Bridal collections. Our association with L’Oréal Professionnel goes back a long way, and recently, with Vipul Chudasama (Art Director, b:blunt salon and academy) joining our team, we have become more involved with training and education.
Q How is the new season shaping up in terms of hair trends?
A Hair is becoming softer, a little freer. For our next collection, we are working with a lot of softness and a lot more texture in the hair. It will be more naturally occurring texture. For colours, I think it’s more important to work with colours that complement the skin tones and not just do it for the sake of fashion. While you can take your cue from fashion, hair colour now will be better blended and not in-your-face. With regards to the technique, it will be more of a free hand method of colouration, almost like a painting.
Q What do you foresee for men’s styling?
A As with hairdressing for women, even the men’s styling will be heavily influenced by the ’20s and ’30s. Short sides and slicked-back hair will be in.
Q What’s more difficult – being a hairstylist or a salon owner?
A A salon owner definitely! Being a creative person, I find the business aspect a bit cumbersome, but Osh (Osh Bhabani) takes care of it. I am good at working on the floor, with my team and channelising my creativity. Yes, Osh and I do have differences, but if it’s about hair, I win, and if it’s about business, I know he’s the boss.
Q What are your plans for b:blunt salons?
A Right now, we have 17 salons and 4 academies. We recently opened a salon in Dubai, our first international venture. So, expansion is definitely on the cards. We are constantly looking out for partners to grow and expand.
Q Which is your favourite styling product?
A Hairspray, hairspray and hairspray! I love using L’Oréal Professionnel’s Elnett spray!
Q One celeb you would love to style…
A Everyone! All the ones I haven’t styled yet!
Q What will be your new personal style statement?
A I change my style every six weeks. Right now, I am growing out my hair. So, you will see a new look on me pretty soon.
