Slick no more
Oily skin brings with it a host of issues such as enlarged pores, melting make-up, breakouts and unpleasantly shiny skin. Here’s how to rein in the oiliness and enjoy a blemish-free complexion this summer.
Oily skin is genetic, and those who inherit it may face breakouts or notice an increase in oiliness due to changes in weather, hormonal activity, stress or overtreating the skin. Keeping the skin clean is the first step in controlling oiliness. But beware of washing with soap and water too often. Dr Anup Dhir, senior cosmetic surgeon, Apollo Hospital, says: “Stay away from harsh soaps or facial cleansers. They tend to dry your skin out.” Soaps strip the skin of its oils and cause it to overcompensate producing yet more oil and thus exacerbating the problem.
