Oily skin brings with it a host of is­sues such as en­larged pores, melt­ing make-up, break­outs and un­pleas­antly shiny skin. Here’s how to rein in the oili­ness and en­joy a blem­ish-free com­plex­ion this sum­mer.

Oily skin is ge­netic, and those who in­herit it may face break­outs or no­tice an in­crease in oili­ness due to changes in weather, hormonal ac­tiv­ity, stress or overtreat­ing the skin. Keep­ing the skin clean is the first step in con­trol­ling oili­ness. But be­ware of wash­ing with soap and wa­ter too of­ten. Dr Anup Dhir, se­nior cos­metic sur­geon, Apollo Hospi­tal, says: “Stay away from harsh soaps or fa­cial cleansers. They tend to dry your skin out.” Soaps strip the skin of its oils and cause it to over­com­pen­sate pro­duc­ing yet more oil and thus ex­ac­er­bat­ing the prob­lem.
