From corporate chic to party hearty

Who doesn’t like to unwind with friends after a long day at work? But while changing out of formals may take minutes, a re-haul of corporate-appropriate hair and make-up may take considerably longer. Here are three ways to instantly transform from day to night in less than 30 minutes.

Ashima gets home from work on Fridays at 7pm and has plans to party with friends at 8. How can she freshen up her look within this time frame?

It’s best to start with a clean face. If there’s no time for a shower, first remove all traces of long-lasting or waterproof make-up with a swab of cotton soaked in baby oil and follow it up with a good dousing of water and your favourite face wash. Makeup expert Priya Kapur suggests a quick dab of concealer under your eyes, around your nose and lips, and in between your eyebrows. Use your fingers to warm up and blend the product. Dab blush on your cheekbones, and try this simple yet bold eye make-up — give your eyelids a wash of colour using cream shadow, with your fingers. Define your crease with a darker colour. Line eyes with a black kohl liner and smudge it softly with a Q-tip. Curl your lashes, load up on mascara, a swipe of gloss and you’re good to go! If you wish to emphasise the lips, go neutral on the eyes with a champagne lid, apply mascara and wear your bold lipstick.

Nehleen does not have time to go home to get ready for a night out with friends. How can she re-do her look in the car itself?

Priya recommends keeping make-up remover wipes at hand to clean up rather than re-touching stale make-up. To freshen up the base, invest in a face mist like Mac Fix+ or Evian Mineral Water Facial Spray, this instantly adds moisture and evens out clumpy make-up that may have settled on the lines around your eyes or frown lines. Right after spraying the mist on patchy make-up areas, take a blending sponge like the Beauty Blender to gently dab over the clumpy makeup. Now that your face is fresh and clean, dab on a sheer cream like the Body Shop’s Vitamin E Illuminating Moisture Cream. Line your eyes with a brown soft pencil liner, use a double-duty stain like the Benefit Posietint for lips and cheeks, swipe on some mascara and you’re ready to party!

Shreya has difficult-to-manage, long hair. How can she style it quickly without spending precious minutes wielding a hair dryer and products?

One trick is to do the prep before work and let your style naturally take shape throughout the day. For example, tie your hair up into a top-knot in the morning whilst your hair is still a little damp and leave it to dry naturally. When you’re getting ready for the party, simply undo the top-knot for a natural wavy look. Run your fingers through the waves to break them up and finish with a smoothing serum.
