Turmeric was one of the most im­por­tant herbs pre­scribed by the an­cients. It is said to strengthen the stom­ach, pu­rify the blood and be an ex­cel­lent tonic for good health, which re­flects in healthy skin! A glass of milk boiled with a half a tea­spoon of turmeric pow­der, ob­tained from the rhi­zomes of the plant, is of­ten rec­om­mended for good health. Turmeric’s an­ti­sep­tic and heal­ing at­tributes pre­vent and cure pim­ples and also clear the skin. Kas­turi haldi, a va­ri­ety of turmeric, is pop­u­larly used by women in South In­dia for a clear com­plex­ion. Just a pinch of turmeric in a paste goes a long way. Mix a paste of chick­pea flour, turmeric and milk (or cream of milk for dry skin) and ap­ply this on the skin to make it soft and clear.
