On the issue of thinning hair in women, trichologist Dr. Sonal Shah advises that prevention is better than cure. Is hair thinning in women common? “This is my 27th year of practice and in the last 12 years, every second woman seems to have a hair problem and every third woman is suffering from hair thinning. It’s a recent modern-day phenomenon.” Does it affect all age groups? “Thinning affects those between 14 and 35 and between 40 and 50.” What are the early symptoms? “The distance between the hair increases, the diameter of the hair reduces and the length of the hair shortens. You will notice your hair clip or tie coming off easily, widening of your parting or notice frontal thinning.”
