Summer will be here soon! To avoid being a hot mess, we have great tips to keep your hair in tiptop condition
W e love the summer sun—nothing beats the warmth on your back and the long days. We love the chance to eat and drink outside, to throw off thick winter clothes and wear the minimum possible. We love having the evening light way into the night and the fresh, bright, sunny mornings. Summer is a wonderful time! But, sadly, not all the things we love are so good for our hair. Summer brings with it follicular challenges and, as we know, what we love does not always suit our tresses. So here are some ideas of ways to give your hair some love this summer.
Consider your colour…. at this time we are normally drawn to lighter tresses to reflect the brighter days and paler clothes. If you have been reading Magazine, then you will already have considered whether to take the plunge and go blonde, and that should be well underway. But there is still time to talk to your stylist about whether to lighten your shade a fraction to lift your mood.
Whether it’s for carefree summer days or stress-free holidays, you will want your hair to be as easy to style and as problemfree as possible—you won’t want to be stressing about a high- maintenance ’do. So talk to your hairdresser about your styling options; perhaps have some layers cut in to give a more defined shape and get that wash and go style, or a short crop if you’ll be in and out of the pool. Cropped styles are particularly good in summer when it shows off our suntanned skin on necks and shoulders.
UV protection is as important for your hair as for your skin, so choose products with this added ingredient as it will help prevent sun damage and tress distress. A good masque once a week, especially one with a colour protect element, will also help guard against the brittleness caused by overexposure. If you are travelling to tropical climes, then anti- humidity products will be a godsend in helping your locks cope with the frizz-making elements.
Get ahead… get a hat!
A great summer staple, a good hat will keep the sun out of your eyes and off your hair! Particularly when sunbathing or sight-seeing, a hat will protect your head and scalp from those blistering rays. Be it a wide-brimmed floppy, a beret or a baseball cap, a hat could be your hair’s salvation this summer.
