Regal environs and a relaxing massage, make a spa experience at Jiva Spa, Taj Falaknuma Palace, Hyderabad, very special, explores BRINDA GILL.
From the horse carriage ride to the palace-hotel; the exquisite lobby embellished with old paintings; and the walk through the gardencourtyard, the erstwhile zenana and a green pocket to the serene lobby of Jiva Spa….every step of the way at Taj Falaknuma Palace, Hyderabad, evokes elegance and royalty!
Walking into Jiva Spa and a short interaction with the therapist later, I opted to try the Vishrama, an hour long, full-body, exotic Indian aromatherapy massage that, as the name delectably suggests, offers complete relaxation.
My therapist guided me to the spa room, a quiet haven lit by tea lamps. She greeted me with a namaste, explaining their philosophy of Atithi
Devo Bhava that means ‘the guest is God’, and washed my feet in a copper bowl filled with warm water and floating rose petals. She poured a little blended oil into it, and gently massaged my feet.
As I stretched on the massage bed with soft instrumental music bringing to mind the murmur of sea waves, she commenced the massage with an oil blend of a sesame base infused with essential oils of kewda, frankincense,
brahmi and sandalwood. Using her knuckles, thumbs, fingers and palms to render short and long strokes, she massaged the body soothingly with just the right amount of pressure.
After the body massage, she took up a small bowl with a sweet-scented blend of mogra, ashwagandha and palmarosa, and gently massaged the
face with it, and then pressed the scalp at the pressure points, ushering in complete sense of relaxation. She then cupped the face and pressed it slightly. The gentle gesture wrapped up the experience nicely! Mildly fragrant and utterly relaxed, I thanked her and left in a haze of happiness!
