LACOSTE

New hire: Felipe Oliveira Baptista Taking over from: Christophe Lemaire When Christophe Lemaire left Lacoste to join Hermès, Portugal-born Felipe Oliveira Baptista, who has previously worked with Max Mara and Cerruti before founding his own label in 2003, took on the reins. With his sensibilities finely attuned to classics and sportswear, the designer has brought out a debut collection for Spring 2012 that has already been compared to the work of René Lacoste himself. He is also said to be working on making the label ‘crocodile-free’, and that is something that was made clear with his first attempt. There is an innate sense of restraint and luxury that informs his work, and it looks like it will continue to at Lacoste.
