New hire: Yoshiyuki Miyamae Taking over from: Dai Fujiwara Yoshiyuki Miyamae came to the notice of Issey Miyake himself in 2001, when he was just three years out of fashion school, and joined the label in 2006, working under his predecessor Dai Fujiwara where he learnt the basics of Issey Miyake’s design philosophy and concepts. With his debut collection out for Spring 2012, the young designer has brought his own signature of techno-chic to the Japanese brand best known for the iconic Pleats Please line and the A-POC concept (acronym for A Piece of Cloth, a method that uses a single thread to create fabric through top- of-theline computer technology) spearheaded by Miyake. Miyamae’s debut collection for Issey Miyake has a distinct new flavour, with enough minimalism to satisfy the regulars.
